Mind: Officially Blown

Sigh. Ireland. I may never get over it.

This is the view that we woke up to for two weeks straight. I mean....seriously? How do people even cope with this view?

Some people feel rested and rejuvenated when they return from trips. I feel cranky and wanderlust-y (I know. Totally not a real word.) For those of you who live in Nashville, I think that you can understand when I say that the second that our car turned onto that God-awful Gallatin Road, my eyes filled with whiney-butt "gonna throw a tantrum" tears.  For those of you who don't live in Nashville, just imagine a scenario where cute flocks of fluffy sheep are replaced by disgruntled drivers...where beautiful ocean vistas and grassy hills are replaced by payday loan shops and dirty, vacant lots....where the still, silent evenings that come when you're teetering at the end of the world give way to the age-old game of "was that a gunshot or fireworks that I just heard?" Yep. Hello, Nashville. You can just bite me.

I know. It sounds totally ungrateful and stupid to say anything negative about being given the chance to take such a trip, doesn't it?  You're allowed to just ignore me as I come to terms with my urban, landlocked world again. Or if you live in Ireland, please consider adopting me. I'm great with sheep and my great-grandmother's third husband used to say that I was stout enough to pull a plow. I'm sure that we can accommodate each other nicely.

I'm trying to wrap my mind around the whole thing and get some posts together about the  experience. If you ever get the chance to go to Ireland, say "yes" so fast that your tongue spins out of control. Trust me on that one.

Until next time,
x's and o's,
Eartha

p.s. Your destination guesses on the last post were AWESOME.

Feel your pain. I live in the land of strip malls. Glad you're back, though!

OMG! Are you kidding me right here?? I would DIE! I would be out there with my entire Echo & The Bunnymen cd collection listening to them as I wandered around this place. How wonderful

Ugh,how could you come back to this hideous hot swampy Southern dank armpit after being there. I felt that way after leaving So Cal after 20 years to come back to Texas

My first thought is: I wonder what the thrift shops are like there?

Oh, a trip to the land of my ancestors...sounds wonderful. I can imagine it was a bit of a letdown to come back to a view of pawn shops and we-tote-the-note car lots after that view.

Man, that view is GORGEOUS! I can only imagine how much better it was with picturesque little sheep. Maybe you'll get to go back before long! And I totally know the "ugh, why do I live here? WHY DON'T I LIVE THERE?" I felt that way just visiting Austin, so I can't imagine what heartstrings the Emerald Isle would tug! (Welcome home anyway!!! :) )

I know the feeling. I myself contemplated more than once, in my back and forth between the US and UK for uni, throwing myself out of the plane when it was announced that we'd be landing in Charlotte in ___minutes. Actually, I still sometimes wish I had. I miss those isles terribly. Hate it here. But alas, I'm stuck here. Oh well, must make the best of it. At least we have Loretta, right? And Dolly. They ain't got Dolly. They don't even have Taco Bell. There. I fell better already.

I would have to be hog tied and thrown back onto my departing flight...I am excited to see and hear all of it. You could meander on this topic till Christmas, take your sweet time with this one, Eartha ;) .... That photo is a gorgeous, epic tease! GREAT shot!

If I ever got to go to Ireland I know I would feel exactly like you! I'd rather be there pulling a plow than here sitting in traffic surrounded by run-down, half-empty strip malls!

I bet the plane back to Nashville was filled with returning travelers who felt as grumpy as you!

I'm sorry you couldn't stay forever but I really love your blog!

I live in England and have never made the trip over to Ireland, but looking at your beautiful picture I may just have to! Where abouts did you stay?

I know what you mean. I went to Ireland for St. Patty's Day no less. Every where you look it's beautiful! The people are so friendly, I would go back in a minute.

Gah. So beautiful! I am jealous. I would love to visit Ireland one day. (Scotland first, though.) We're going to Munich and Vienna in October and I have a feeling Andy is going to have a tough time getting me onto the plane back home.

I am so jealous. I'm as green as an emerald isle. What an amazing trip! I can't wait to hear all about it!

(Yes, I know what you mean about coming back. I don't think where I live in OH is much different than what you're describing in Nashville, only here we call it "Bechtle Ave.".)

Drool! I totally respect the wanderlust feeling, friend! I have been itching to get out of the country since I got back from my trip to Paris last year. FIE!

There are so many wonderful places out there. I think the best way to get over wanderlust is to start planning your next trip!

But of course glad to have you back!

I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, Alaska. Yet when we turn back into my street after a vacation I have the very same reaction. I think more than anything, we don't want to go back to the same old routine. We want to be on vacation with all the freedom that entails!!odolv

How beautiful! So glad you got to go! I've never left the country, but I know the feeling you describe upon returning home from a trip. Usually puts me in a funk too, especially living somewhere I don't want to be right now.

This looks so incredible!!! I can't wait to see more of your trip. There is nothing like experiencing a different culture to put things in perspective. I'm so glad that you were able to see the world!

I used to also be quite depressed the day our family would get back from vacation. Going out for pizza always helped cheer me up. Our pizza place in those days was a tiny mom n' pop in a trailer on Dickerson Road :)

Oh NO that's SO GORGEOUS. I'd love to go one day!

I felt the same way upon my return from Scotland, it is surreal the difference a continent can make.
It took me about two weeks to get back to reality. I'm glad you had a lovely time!

I'd like to know if you stayed in that stone cottage. I'd like to go there if I could have an authentic Irish experience.
