Back into the Frying Pan

Well, we're back in Tennessee. But not just any Tennessee - the sweltering hot, I'm talking 103 degrees Tennessee. All of our grass is yellow and crunchy and the plants are done for. And the poor trees! They're dropping their leaves like it's Fall.

As you can imagine, this was a maddening jolt to the system as we were in ice cold, coat-needin' Alaska for ten straight days before. I can't even muster up the courage to so much as take the sweat inducing hike to the mailbox but only peek out at it from behind closed curtains. Our poor air conditioner whines away as if it's begging us to say that we're only kidding. Even the ice cream trucks have stopped circulating, their drivers most likely figuring that the box fans will block out their jingly-jangly drive-bys.

During our last few days in Alaska and Canada, we had really spotty internet reception. Which I guess was good as it forced me to actually enjoy the vacation and concentrate on beautiful things like nature and historic bordellos. Oh yes - bordellos. I have to admit that they were one of my favorite parts of the trip and I can't wait to tell you about them. Anyway, I have a lot to share with you buckaroos about the trip as soon as my mind can get itself together again. The fifteen hour trip home along with the extreme time change and heat has not quite been registered by my body and I feel like I'm drunk on something. Quite possibly exhaustion and a steep drop in excitement.

In the meantime, check out this trailer for "Moonrise Kingdom". I highly recommend this film if you haven't already seen it. It's a great story and absolutely stunning to look at. And with a soundtrack that is heavy on the Hank Williams, Francoise Hardy and Alexandre Desplat, you can not go wrong. I wanted to see the movie again the minute that it ended.

I hope that you all are doing well and are staying cool where you are!

Until next time,
x's and o's,
Eartha

GOD,that is just the WORST,going from 10 days in Alaska back to this Southern armpit! To get a taste of comfort and the have it ripped away. Trust me,it's the same way here, going to the mailbox at the end of the driveway is torture!

I have been seeing lots of stuff on this Moonrise Kingdom, totally looks like my kinda quirky cool movie

i loved it too! i want one of those scout uniforms.
when we were in florida in february it was 80 degrees adn i got go used to it in 7 days that it took me WEEKS to remember to wear my coat when i went to work. your body just doesn't want to believe those happy days are over! i'm over this summer and the crunchy grass. its too hot to even try and find a pool to swim in.
i can't wait for your trip posts though! i think just seeing the ice (and the bordellos) will feel like a getaway

Sorry you had to give up cool Alaska for the sweltering South. The temperature in the Dallas/Fort Worth area has dropped today from 102 to 87. I think we're finally about to get some much-needed rain.

Can't wait to hear about the bordellos! :)

Yaaaaay, welcome back! Can't wait to hear all about your trip! And the bordellos! Also, how have I not seen Moonrise Kingdom yet? I'm so behind on my summer movie list, it's pitiful.

Sorry you had to return to a frying pan! Looks like you had an amazing trip though! I would love to go up there sometime to explore Alaska.
There is something really wrong when its cooler in Florida than up north where I am! Who says there's no global warming!

Lordy. I was through your neck of the woods while you were gone, and Tennessee, my dear girl, is crispy. My car thermometer said 104 in St. Louis, 106 in Nashville, and 102 in Atlanta during our travels. Winning that contest is a dubious honor! Hope you have ice in the icebox and cool memories of Alaska! Can't wait to read more!

An Alaska trip!
How amazing! My husband thinks I'm completely bonkers but I told him that I would rather go on an Alaskan Cruise than a tropical one! Don't get me wrong, I love smell of the tropical sand beaches but man oh man...I'm all about Miss Mother Nature at her rustic finest :) FYI seals and I are like peas in a pod ;)
So glad you had an amazing time!
Welcome home girlie!

It sounds like you had an amazing trip! Isn't the heat insane? At least it has calmed down a bit over the past few days. I need to see Moonrise Kingdom!
