As with any renovation project, it's easy to get bogged down in what is left to do. There are lots of things that are still hanging on around the ranch, waiting to be done...or waiting for the money to do. In these "bogged down" situations, I recommend walking around and taking a good, hard look at what you
have done. Sometimes, it's really easy to not even take a second to scream cheers out into the universe when we finish a project. Sometimes, we just move on to the next one.
I thought I'd post some snapshots of the Kitschderosa today so that you can see what kind of dressing my personal ranch gets. There are a lot of areas that are still in renovation mode and those will be coming up soon. For now, let's just pretend that they don't exist. :) (especially that smell in our pantry that we intend to find this weekend - please renovation gods, don't let it be between the walls!) I'm getting together some before and after pictures so you all can see how things started out. I'm also planning to show you the muckety-muck of current and upcoming projects. Thus, the "dressing" side of Ranch Dressing.
Doesn't everyone have a cat in the fireplace? Faux fire, thankfully. Those coffee carafes got parked there after I brought them home from junking in S.C. and they never left. The painting of Richard Nixon is by a killer artist named Mr. Hooper. The paint-by-number jungle scene was found at an insanely cheap estate sale. My late grandparents' amber vases are included. And glued down with museum wax because of wild eyed kittens.
Sun Porch - "You are My Sunshine" by Yee-Haw Industries out of Knoxville
A little mountain view in the pink bathroom - so that we can pretend like we're on vacation instead of looking at paint samples and sweeping up sheet rock dust.
The garage laundry room from Hell. It's currently 98 degrees in there! 98! I know that I said that I'm not going to show the bad spots but hey, I'm lucky enough to not be scrubbing laundry down by the river on a rock so...
I put the chick on the wall to try and cheer things up. Work your magic, chickie baby! And how about fluffing and folding if you get around to it?
View from the Dining Room - everything pink, all abloom - and my neighbor's laundry. I don't ever mind seeing clothes lines full. I love clothes lines. People hardly ever use them anymore....strange.
The Den/Studio - Amy Carter and some bunnies on the mantel - Mr. Kitsch's touch
Sun Porch - Vintage girl's dress in cherry lipstick red
Sun Porch - My Mom made these curtains for me out of a shower curtain from Target! Squirrels! Eee!
My favorite room - The Kitschen
If you're in the middle of projects, I hope that they are going well. And if you are in the hoping and planning stages, know that those stages are important too. Sometimes, they are the very best parts. And for those of you who are actually out taking vacations and spending money on non-house stuff, do some whooping it up for the rest of us, would ya?
Until next time...(remember, measure twice and cut once!)
x's and o's,
Everyone is thinking projects at the moment, I love it!
I'm on a bit of a roll and I do agree that you need to look at what you have done not concentrate on what you haven't, but it's also so hard sometimes isn't it? I do feel better getting some complete!
I like the bathroom wall color, after all that caterwauling and hoop jumping we all participated in months ago. I must have missed the prologue....
Oh, I just ADORE your house girl! And, all of your decorations and furniture and, and, and! :) It is all so gorgeous! Your kitchen is so spectacular - me loves. Can I just sleep on the floor in there, with the Cream Cheese Penguins, and bask in it's glory? :)
Kittys in the fireplace, we have that here ALL the time! Check my Flickr!!!
I love that there is love and whimsy in all your dressings.
Your place is just the right kind of place: lovely, filled with interesting things, and a great expression of who you are on the inside. If someone didn't know you or Mr. Kitsch at all, he/she definitely would after seeing these photos.
I feel like kicking off my shoes and sitting a spell!
"I feel like kicking off my shoes and sitting a spell!"
I'm with Sharon and I'll even bring some pie.
that kitchen! those cabinets, oh my!!! Your house is beautiful and I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one with a less than "magazine perfect" laundry room... :)
We have been in the "hoping and planning" stage for the past 10 years, and might actually be in the "doing" stage shortly. I am frightened.
I love everything here, but my favorites are: mountain paint-by-numbers in bathroom and Amy Carter on the mantel. But truly, it is all amazing and very inspiring!
Your home is BEAUTIFUL!! i love it! And I absolutely agree, an orange shag rug would be perfect for that living room! And that red dress is beautiful too! Great pictures! And good luck with all of your work!
Kittens buring in the fireplace always makes a room feel so cozy.
Thanks for the reminder, I need to clean it before Sophie gets the run of the place.
Omg I LOVE it!!! You're doing a fantastic job- I love it all!!!
Your kitchen is totally and completely kick ass and reminds me of my Grandma's in all of the best ways. Seriously, your home is looking amazing, despite Pip's best efforts!
I'd love one of those fake fire log light-up dealies...is it vintage?
Darn, woman, what renovations? Your house looks fantastic! Makes me want to set ours on fire and walk away (of course, having a fridge in the living room because the big one just died, a master bedroom under what seems like permanent construction complete with large boxes serving as dumpsters, and a vintage waterfall vanity crowding the guest room because it belongs in the not-finished-yet bedroom doesn't help). May I move into yours? I'm a great housekeeper. And cook.
Those curtains still make me squeal. lol I haven't thought of an excuse to buy the shower curtain yet!
Oh! Speaking of clothes lines, we scored one! My in-laws are selling their Cinci home to move permanently to the Gulf Shores in 'bama, and we were down there helping her clear stuff out recently. She wanted to 'get rid of' the blue clothes line dispenser/line thingy in her laundry room, and she just gave me this look. "You can take it if you want." If I want?! Just waiting for Hubby to install it. Right now (you will LAUGH), I have a line strung between the posts on our back porch. In fact, there are vintage pillowcases airing out back there right now. When I hang my gloves out there (solar whitening power!), the neighbors REALLY get a kick out of it.
I find the fire-breathing "Tricky Dick" a little disturbing, but the rest of the place is aces! When can I move in? ;)
Aaahh, I never tire of looking at your beautiful home.
my great grandparents built cabins on the north shore of lake superior in the 50s. knotty pine heaven! if i knew then what i knew now i would have taken pics before they all got remodeled.
cute house! i have those same exact kitchen cabinets!
